As some of you may already know, I'm a HUGE CM Punk fan. So today I will be reviewing John Cena vs CM Punk for the WWE Title from Money in the Bank 2011 in Chicago, Illinois. This was the night that Punk's contract was to expire, and I highly enjoyed watching him Muay Thai kick Cena into a bunch of Fruity Pebbles on his way to claiming the WWE Title. This was CM Punk's opportunity to bring change to WWE, and the Chicago crowd was going crazy, as was the rest of the WWE Universe.
The whole match the Champion targeted Punk's knee, and "The Straightedge Savior" attacked Cena's vulnerable neck. I loved all of the submission work from both men, even though Michael Cole calls everything "The Anaconda Vice". I liked it when Punk went to give Cena the GTS, but it was reversed it into an STF.
When Vince McMahon came out I bet everyone thought, "Oh my God, Montreal Screwjob!". But that is not what happened on this night. Instead, John Cena clocked John Lauriniatis, who McMahon had instructed to call for the submission on Punk. I honestly respect John Cena for not winning that way.
This match will always remain in my mind as the end of an era, and the start of a beautiful chapter in the career of CM Punk. And as Joey Mercury once told Punk, "You certainly can't change anything by sitting on your couch in Chicago".
